May 2024
Message from the CEO
Dear ATS Community,
May is Asian American Pacific Islanders (AAPI) Heritage Month, an annual month-long celebration that originated as a weekly celebration of Asians and Pacific Islanders in the United States; an important time to understand the culture, history, and challenges that the AAPI community faces. In case you missed it, our team shared the importance of AAPI representation in the workplace.
May is also Mental Health Awareness Month - a month-long observance dedicated to eradicating stigma, extending support, fostering public education, and advocating for policies that prioritize the well-being of individuals and families affected by mental illness.
Our team at ATS+Partners understands the significance of creating a workplace environment where the welfare of employees is given top priority. As we celebrate AAPI Heritage Month and Mental Health Awareness Month and closely collaborate with mission-driven organizations, we will continue to advocate for the overall well-being of every individual to foster a culture of inclusivity and sustainability. Let's work together to build a world where everyone is valued and respected.
“Be (with) someone that promotes a healthy state of being: mind, body, and soul.”
― Kierra C.T. Banks
Mental illness affects a large portion of the adult population in the United States. One out of every five adults is affected, but unfortunately, only one out of every three people who need help will receive it. As a result, people who are dealing with mental or physical health issues may miss work or be less productive while at work. This is known as presenteeism.
By supporting the mental wellness of their staff, employers can help their employees stay healthy and productive. Some of the benefits of supporting the mental well-being of employees include:
Increased productivity: Research indicates that treating depression can improve work performance by up to 86%, and reduce absenteeism and presenteeism by 40-60%.
Improved employee retention: In a 2019 survey of 1,500 employees, over a third left their jobs due to mental health, with 59% citing it as the primary reason.
Decreased health care and disability costs: According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, adults with serious mental illness have twice the rates of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases compared to those without.
From our team, here are some of the things you can immediately do to provide not only assistance to employees but also a safe space where they can thrive:
Offer immediate access to mental health professionals by phone or in person.
Extend mental wellness resources to employees' immediate family members.
Emphasize your mental wellness initiatives, such as EAP, is confidential and free of charge.
Our team at ATS+Partners can help if you have any questions or need specific guidance. Just reach out to us today at info@atspartners.org. We want to make it easy for you to make a difference.
